In English, Costa Rica literally translates to mean “rich coast.” That is very true of the land and surroundings of the country. Gorgeous beach coastlines on either side of the land are unique and impressive. The cloud forests are full of lush and full of greenery. The richness of the surroundings is almost overwhelming to the first time visitor. Along with the incredible views of the land’s beaches, hills, and forests, Costa Rica is also rich in its culture. The culture in Costa Rica has had many influencing factors over the years. The cultural diversity, hospitality, and unique features of the Costa Rican culture are the reasons that many first time visitors choose to return again and again.
Throughout the history of Costa Rica, many surges of immigration supplemented the native pre-Hispanic peoples and settled in the area to make it their home. There are numerous heritages and histories that offer influences that affect the diverse and richness of the Costa Rican culture. African, Hebrew, Italian descents and more take root in the area, along with the native Bribri, Boruca, and Chorotega peoples. The combination of all of these cultures might seem mind boggling to many people, but the truth is that these combinations have created a unique people who thrive in social peace and hospitability.
